I've got the same problem and it really sucks! I'm not sure though whether the problem is related to the graphics controller or the panel. The graphics driver seems to be recognized properly by vista (at least I didn't get an error message) but the highest resolution I can go up to without the desktop no longer fitting on the screen is 1280x768 instead of 12800x800 (I have a widescreen panel). Obviously, this way 32 pixels are missing horizontally and while you might think 32 pixels isn't that much I can tell you that it screws up your rendering completely even making small fonts almost impossible to encouter. Does anybody else use the intel 82855 graphics card together with a widescreen panel and did anybody of you guys report this problem to Microsoft and Intel? Actually it's quite embarrassing that a device that old is not support by a brand new operating system. I wouldn't even mind the 1280x768 resolution if it cutted the desktop horizontally leaving a small blank line at the top or bottom of the screen but I haven't come across an option like this yet. Does anybody know whether this is possible on Windows Vista?
I have HP Pavilion Ze2000 laptop, 1.86 Ghz Centrino , 512 MB Ram & intel 82852/82855 - 64 MB Video Card, Actually, Windows Vista recognized the card without any errors, the display works on 32bit 1024 * 768 .

Remove all previous installtions of hardware (just keep vistas std vga).2. DLD the latest drivers from intel and extract to hardrive.3. in device manager go to Action - Add legacy hardware.4. Select device manually. (If the 82852/82855 GM/GME doesnt show in the list of display drivers, then you need to point to the directory where you extracted the drivers)5. THIS IS THE IMPOTANT STEP. Dont select 82852/82855 GM/GME from the list of drivers, select the 945GM driver. It will install and you will need to reboot. You should now have a fully functional 82852/82855 GM/GME display adapter.I do, I hope this works for you too!
This driver contains a number of .inf files, of which the ialmnt5.inf (or so) contains the necessary info. When W7 starts, press F8 and choose option "run without driver signature checking". It's available under the W7 RC (build 7100) and has a slightly different name in the German version I'm using. The point seems to be that W7 showed 2 entries of the 82852/855 driver, too. They flagged the code 43 error but I could eliminate it by doing a search for new hardware or disable one copy, then update the other one going to the same directory's PARENT folder, again. Note that it won't display the selection of .inf files again that it did the first time around. Instead, a number of additional devices will be reported, one of which is graphics system SoftBIOS. This will allow W7 to talk to the hardware (via BIOS) and complete the configuration. After that, error 43 is gone, memory mappings are shown in the driver 'resources' panel and the display will now read 'Digital Flat Panel 1024x768'. Apparently, the graphics card now talks to the display via DDC2, enables 32-bit color depth as well as all the power saving functions. Now the NB power supply feels much cooler and Media Player shows .MPG files allright. Haven't tried MPEG-2, but should work, also. Sorry for not being more specific, but I'll check back when I've located the driver I mentioned above.BTW, W7 RC works OK on my Banias NB (1.4 GHz) with just 512 MB of RAM. I make one caveat: I have also installed many different chipset .inf files before that, one of which is the GART driver (read about it in the AGP spec/wikipedia) that came with the NB (from the install CD) - perhaps this was necessary, too....will post again (be patient, please).Marc.

to me WMP with the 3rd-from-left acceleration setting with the vista intel 855gv driver is the best choice so far. quicktime stalls when u enlarge it at all, while VCA washes out compared to WMP which color remains richer even with the reduced acceleration.
I downloaded the XP SP2 driver from support.dell.com> I know the driver works on this machine for Vista. I then set it to run in Vista compatibility mode and run as Administrator for all users and it installed and runs normally in 1024X768 32 bit mode.
Great news! After tolerating reduced hardware acceleration for WMP in Win7000 beta for weeks, I replaced it with Win7022 build and I can now play WMP with full hardware accel. I have 915gm chipset with latest .4764 driver dl from intel support. I also vlited this build down to 1.27g using only 208mb of ram at idle, so it runs great and is fully stable on my old HP 510 laptop with 528 ram. If u want to see what I took out, I posted my vlite log on Windows7 forum in support.
i was wondering i know you guys were talking about the intel 915 chipset, so am i to assume that Build 7022 has the issue resolved with the Intel 855GM chipset? i have a laptop version. i do have native resolution now and i have the windows vista XDDM as my drivers. i was also wondering do i use these same drivers i aquired for the Build 7022 ans i did for this version (Bets Build 7000 is what i am running now). Thanks!
I turned off the intergrity check and then installed the intel 855 driver from the rapidshare link above. i resart as stated and when it loads up again, windows installs the video driver but after saying install successful it is still the same default driver from windows. in device driver its still shows the intel 855 card installed but says there is a problem and is turned off..
yeah i have the same problem as tony, i also have a dell 700m. i would have a fresh install, turn integrity check off, go to device drivers, right click on standard display driver, browse to the downloaded 855 driver, and install, restart, but nothing. anyone have an issue with this too?
Hi, this is a pretty tricky one, I had the same problem using the intel 855gm. the problem lies with the graphics chipset driver and is an easy fix. you should prob try stay connected to the net while doing this.
Dear ALL Thank You for this forum ! After 2 week big job yestaday I setup my Fujtsu Siemens 7010 Video card 82852/82855 Intel by 855gm_VISTA_driver.zip in Windows 7. Ago after this driver, I received blue screen. Solution: run-> msconfig-> boot-> check OS boot information . After this check WINDOWS 7 work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with VIDEO acselerator.
Fujtsu Siemens E8010 with 82852/82855 Intel is now running with 855gm_VISTA_driver.zip in Windows 7. Direct after driver installation before rebooting: run-> msconfig-> boot-> check OS boot information .(to avoid resolution change on windows startup that causes a blue screen)Else reboot in safe mode and check OS boot information then. Thanks !
Driver Max works! It found a chipset called the Intel corporation 855 Magicone embedded Gcontrol and downloaded a driver written by Microsoft that is so compatible it is not funny!Screen resolution is 1280X800, full direct X 3D accelleration, full hardware accelleration, no issue with DVD/Divx and stable as heck. This is on a Dell 710m laptop. I did log in as the admin and turned off driver signing monitering. 3 days I looked and tried with BSOD, blank screens etc and then tried driver max it works like a champ. This driver is not digitaly signed but is supposed to work for the entire Intel Extreme Graphics 2 family.
OK, try this...Repeat the driver install steps, but this time if there is a list of Intel graphics adapters listed when you click on Have disk and you browse to the ialmnt5 setup information file, select this one from the list, and click next...select the one I highlighted in red.
Device drivers are the software interfaces that talk directly to the physical graphics hardware. The PCI\VEN Code can be broken down into parts that relate to the hardware manufacturer, the category of the hardware and the revision of the hardware. The first part, the "PCI\VEN_", is specific to the manufacturer, Intel has the PCI\VEN code of "PCI\VEN_8086". The "&DEV_" part of the code relates to the hardware, in this case the "DEV_3582" relates to graphics hardware, specifically the 82852 855GM Integrated. If the graphics device is slow or just seems to be not working, then it is likely that the driver is a generic driver, is not installed correctly or is just broken. For use only with the Intel 82852 855GM Integrated device, an up-to-date list of downloads is shown below. 2ff7e9595c
